About Us

Conflict is a part of community.

We can choose to handle it well, poorly, or not at all.

When we choose to handle our disagreements and problems with care and consideration, we choose to build more resilient and compassionate communities.

Our Mission

Resolve Center for Dispute Resolution and Restorative Justice transforms the way the diverse people and communities of southern Oregon manage and resolve conflict and repair from harm.

Resolve is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has been serving southern Oregon communities since 1990, helping people manage conflict through mediation, restoring harmed relationships and communities through dialogue and coaching, and advancing peace through education and training.

Resolve provides services without discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, marital status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law. We are committed to creating equitable access to all individuals and communities.

The Philosophy

The philosophy behind Appropriate Dispute Resolution (ADR) is that different conflicts require different approaches, and no single method works best in every situation. Rather than defaulting to traditional litigation, ADR promotes flexibility, efficiency, and a focus on resolving conflicts in ways that best suit the needs and goals of the people involved. This approach often includes mediation, negotiation, and restorative practices, each designed to encourage dialogue, fairness, and opportunities for mutual agreement.

ADR centers on the belief that conflict can be addressed in a constructive, non-adversarial way, prioritizing solutions that are voluntary, collaborative, and meet the specific needs of the people involved. By empowering participants to choose or tailor a process that fits their circumstances, ADR not only promotes justice but also respects individual values and fosters lasting resolutions.

Why Community Dispute Resolution Centers Matter

Conflict is a natural part of life, and it doesn’t have to divide us. Community Dispute Resolution Centers (CDRC) like Resolve provide constructive ways to address disagreements, repair harm, and rebuild relationships. By fostering dialogue, accountability, and mutual understanding, we help individuals and communities transform conflict into opportunities for growth and connection.

A cornerstone of our work is utilizing trained community volunteers to serve as facilitators and mediators. These dedicated individuals bring diverse perspectives and a commitment to justice, creating a ripple effect of positive change throughout Southern Oregon. Their involvement ensures that conflict resolution is not only accessible but also deeply rooted in the values and voices of the communities we serve and belong to. Together, we are building stronger, more compassionate places to live and work, one conversation at a time.
