Referring a Client to Mediation

At Resolve, we partner with social service organizations and case managers to support individuals navigating conflict. Mediation can be a powerful tool for resolving disputes, improving communication, and helping clients move forward with confidence.

Is Mediation the Right Fit?

Mediation is most effective when:

  • All parties are willing to participate voluntarily.
  • There is a specific issue to discuss and resolve.
  • The goal is understanding the resolution, not assigning blame.
  • All parties feel safe engaging in conversation with support.

If a conflict involves domestic violence, ongoing harassment, or legal actions, mediation may not be the best approach. Feel free to contact us if you’re unsure.

Preparing Clients for Mediation

To help your client feel comfortable and ready:

  • Explain the process – Mediation is a confidential, neutral, and guided conversation where all voices are heard.
  • Set realistic expectations – Mediation focuses on understanding and working toward practical solutions, not forcing agreement.
  • Reassure them about confidentiality – What’s shared in mediation stays private and confidential. Mediators cannot be called as witnesses or to testify in legal proceedings.
  • Encourage open-mindedness – Mediation works best when participants are willing to listen and engage in problem-solving.
